Issue #1: Are You Really Okay?
Good morning, good afternoon, or good evening—depending on when you’re reading this. I hope you’re having a wonderful day.
When I was thinking about how I wanted to incorporate mental health, self-care, and real, relatable conversations into one newsletter, I came up with the perfect idea: Mindful Mondays.
When you think of the hardest day of the week, what day comes to mind?
If you said Monday, you’re not alone—that was my answer too.
For so many of us, Monday is the day we dread because it means returning to work, school, responsibilities, deadlines, and routines. Before the day even begins, we’re already saying things like, “Ugh… it’s Monday. I don’t want to do this.” We convince ourselves it’s going to be a bad day before we even get out of bed.
But have you ever considered that maybe Mondays don’t go so well because of the mindset we begin them with?
Negative thoughts have power. The words we repeat to ourselves shape how we experience our day. When we start the week expecting exhaustion, stress, or disappointment, it’s no surprise when that’s exactly how we feel.
So this is where Mindful Mondays begin.
Instead of letting Mondays empty our cups, let’s make them the day we intentionally fill them.
Before you keep reading, I want you to pause for just a moment.
And ask yourself am I really okay… or is that just what I tell people?
It’s such a simple question, yet one so many of us struggle to answer honestly.
We’re so used to saying, “I’m fine.” “I’m good.” “I’m just tired.”
But are you really?
Not the answer you’d give a coworker.
Not the answer you’d tell your classmates.
Not the answer you’d post online.
The honest answer.
One thing I’ve realized during this major transition in my own life is how easy it is to become so busy that I forget to check in with myself. Between responsibilities, goals, and trying to figure out this new chapter, I sometimes keep pushing forward without stopping to ask myself how I’m actually doing.
Eventually, those emotions begin to pile up. Before you know it, you feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, or, as many of us like to say, overstimulated.
That’s why our very first Mindful Monday is simply about checking in.
Treat yourself with the same kindness you would show a friend or family member.
Maybe even grab a journal.
Ask yourself:
• Are you really okay… or is that just what you say?
• What emotions have I been pushing aside?
• What do I truly need today?
• What’s one thing I can do today that would make me feel just a little lighter?
Then, do something kind for yourself.
Maybe it’s buying your favorite coffee, treating yourself to a cookie, taking yourself on a walk, listening to your favorite playlist, watching your comfort show, reading a chapter of a book, or simply allowing yourself to rest without feeling guilty.
We spend so much time focusing on our responsibilities that we sometimes forget life is meant to be enjoyed too.
Joy doesn’t always have to come from big moments.
Sometimes it’s blasting your favorite songs on the drive home, watching the sunset, laughing with a friend, or sitting in silence with a cup of tea.
Those little moments matter.
Because every time you choose to check in with yourself instead of ignoring your feelings, you’re taking one more step toward becoming the healthiest version of you.
Until next Monday…
Take care of yourself.
You deserve it.
